In the zones where the climate turns soon to values autumn you can begin the seeding of the tops of turnip an excellent winter vegetable.
Theoretically in August you/he/she should finish the production of many vegetables as the tomatoes, but if these have been transplanted to it resides to end March-April, time allowing you/they can continue her/it production some months still; in the gardens of the zones to climate more mild tomatoes and peppers can also be picked up up to December. In the industrial cultivations it would not be anymore convenient, but in the small gardens this is a practice commune.

To prune the eggplants for a second production

Always in the zones to milder climate, where the winter cold often attends over December to make to feel, is possible to prune the eggplants to stimulate a second picked. The plants by now you become exhausted they cut him to 20 earth cms for to stimulate the issue of new side ramifications that you/they will be able to produce to end October-November. Not he/she always succeeds, but if it is not had the urgency of riutilizzare the ground for new cultivations, he is able to try.

The eggplants are in full production

Among few will be  the time of the tops of turnip (italian: Cime di rapa)

You Top of turnip prefers mild climate but it also continues its growth up to alone 5°C. It loves terrestrial loose, middle ph (6 -7) and exposure sunny. The seeding can be made in field in distant file 40/60 cms and to the distance of around 15 cms on the line. In practice, being the thin (300-400 seeds for gram) seed him demina in file nonstop or to flooding, and he proceeds to the diradamento when her seedlings are tall at least 4-5 cms.

To have spicier peperoncini is owed to suspend the irrigation around 10 days before the harvest (in the photo: peperoncino Bishop Crown or Cap of the Bishop)

THE IRRIGATION

In the months of July and August it is necessary to take care of a lot the irrigation, that owes  more abundant being according to the varieties, but above all you/he/she must be constant. The passage from damp environments too much to environments too much buckets (this is verified when, for example, we jump only also a day of irrigation) you/he/she can provoke stress irremediable in some vegetables, as in the fagiolinis that him they also take back very hardly from a lack of brief water.
Other vegetables (for example tomatoes, bieta) have an ability of prodigious resumption. Lacking water the leaves assume the aspect of dangling straccetti from the branches, but after an innaffiatura, in a pair of times they take back the original aspect. Nevertheless a damage has been fact, especially if the plant already has small fruits. Damages worse that engrave on the productivity they are verified when peppers or eggplants suffer the lack of water.
Particularly in the tomatoes the rottenness apicale (stings black in the tomatoes of long ransom as the san marzano) you/he/she can be induced just from the unbalances of irrigation.

The spontaneous grass are always present in the garden. The chenopodio is an edible grass.

The better way to irrigate

The irrigation would always go sort with the slide method, gioè making to race the water in the furrows among the lines of the garden. This type of irrigation can be made, if really necessary, to any time of the day. Many use to water the garden with him sprinklers, because so he saves time. There are many elements to disfavor. Indeed, this type of irrigation must have done late at night, neither immediately after the sunset when the leaves are still "warm" neither just before the dawn when the sun raising himself/herself/itself it would go to still strike wet leaves.
When the plants are tall or sharp pains big part of the sprinkled water it stops him on the leaves and it doesn't reach the roots, where of it would be more need. He/she is always finally true, the equation that recites: wet leaves, easier illnesses. All the illnesses act of it (oidio, mildew, etc) they are developed very more on the leaves wet.

Tastier vegetables

It exists nevertheless a technique that consists really in to suspend the irrigation a few days before the crop to have watermelons and sweeter melons or spicier peperoncini. Generally all him vegetables (not those to leaf) can profit of a improvement of the qualities, however when it comes with vegetables to harvest to climb, as the tomatoes, the reduction of the irrigation for possession tastier tomatoes it jeopardizes the growth of those small that he is forming.

This book will give you the best advice for sowing, cultivation and collection of tasty vegetables for the joy of your table. In a series of data tables, are revealed the essential characteristics of each vegetable, which are necessary to determine the success of its growth

The vegetable garden, an old hobby that back current. Today it is an economic resource to be not to despise, but many grow the garden for several reasons: as an antidote to a life too sedentary, or as joy to participate in the cycles of nature. So you create small screw, which are in no way lower, even if they are only plants. The plants respond visually to your attention, even on your closeness and your eyes. Finally, one cultivates a vegetable garden  for a philosophical choice of life that refuses to consumerism, that purchases of articles ready and packaged. The “homo faber” returns this, and continue to use his hands, his intelligence and his heart.

Despite this, the techniques remain the same. The seeds should be treated the same way, the soil must be worked with the same care; ultimately the mystery of life continues to be repeated as always in our small garden. Modern technology has introduced the chemistry, that the real grower shuns. Finally, a manual on growing written by a true hobbyst. When they were still walking, more than half a century ago, the author accompanied the father in the small family vegetable garden and he learned the little tricks and secrets ancient in this art.

Today cultivate a garden no longer means more resourceful to survive, but rather choose a new style of life.

Least temperature of germination and average of growth

The most punctual individualization of the dates of seeding is given from the observation of the local temperature, within the period preferred by the specific cultivation. Every vegetable has one Least temperature Of Germination, below which her cries it is not born (and often even above). Then before progress to a seeding to observe the temperature Of Peak of the own zone, that is that taller, generally the afternoon, and to compare her/it here with those suitable in the chart under.

So also to grow every plant needs a different temperature from that of germination that we define Middle Temperature Of Growth. This is given by a reasonable average between the least nighttime and her diurnal motto. And' obvious that these two must not introduce woodpeckers as zero degrees or forty degrees, in these cases the average is not ricavabile. That is, the interval between the least one and the motto owes to be reasonable.

In the month of February, especially toward the end, the nature starts to to quiver. August is the correct moment for to start to the shelter the hatcheries for the seedings of September. For some vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, eggplants) some have already provided in heated greenhouse. For the one who doesn't prepare of it, in a lot of zones you/he/she can be started to prepare the small hatcheries also in greenhouse cold, large case or other place, even if not heated. Before her chart I introduce some introductory notes on the zones and on her temperatures appreciated by the different plants.

Calendar of the seedings and climatic zones
It is necessary to consider one great variety of climates and temperatures that coexist in the same ones periods. In the practice, we consider some climatic zones principal.
This I dictate, it results evident that a Chart of the seedings, if it is proper to a climatic band, it is able not to be him/it for the others. Her Charts that I propose in this blog refer to the great ones inside lowlands, but it is possible to suit her for the proper one reality considering big way these differences:

zones above the 500 meters: a delay of 25-50 days
zones above the 300 meters: a delay of 15-35 days
adjoining zones to the coasts: an advance of 7-15 days
coasts of the warm seas or islands: an advance of 25-40 days

The strawberries can be sowed and to transplant in increasing moon.

In this month's Charts besides the indication of the temperatures I distinguish three types of seeding: to the open one, in cold greenhouse, in greenhouse heated.
To the open one it means in full field, without protections. Obviously these seedings are not possible in the subject zones to nighttime frosts. In cold greenhouse it means that the vegetable is sowed protecting him/it with any mean (from a real greenhouse not heated, to a plastic tunnel, thin to a cloth of fabric not fabric widened too much on the aiuola in the cold periods). This type of seeding can be made in the zones that normally not the 0 nighttime C°s reach, but you/they could reach him/it; for certain cultivations you/he/she must not be gone down under the 5 degrees. Instead her cultivation in warm greenhouse could theoretically be made for everybody the vegetables, but a good experience is needed because enough a small error to jeopardize the whole crop. Generally who prepares of a warm greenhouse is already able to use her/it with profit.
